Come Back Many children are inspired to play the piano long before they receive their first pieces of piano sheet music. They might tinker with the keys of a piano when they are a toddler, and by the time they reach the age of 6, they have managed to learn a simple song that they picked out all by themselves by listening to the sounds that were emitted when they depressed the keys on the piano keyboard. The piano sheet music that they receive when they begin taking classes will probably not be of the highest quality. The teacher probably created the sheet music at home on her computer and enlarged a few lines of a song that all children know by heart. Using this type of sheet music for piano lessons is common place, and it helps the teacher keep expenses down so that families can afford to pay for the lessons that their child is taking. After the child has learned the proper placement of the hands on the keyboard, and learned the letters that go with the keys on the keyboard, they might be given some piano sheet music that is constructed in a pamphlet style and fashioned from thicker paper than was used in the past. These durable sheets of music will serve the child well for almost a year, and the talent in the child will be clearly evident at this stage of training. They will use this same piece of piano sheet music until they have become very fluent in reading the musical notes that are on the sheet in front of them. By this time, they should have developed a great deal of confidence in their piano playing techniques, and should have refined their skills enough to play the notes with a distinctive rhythm and present an air of grace as they go through each movement. In time the child will be able to set up the piano music in front of them with an air of confidence. They will be able to comprehend the notes on the piano sheet music and stroke the keys with a rhythmic flow that comes only after hours of practice. The time that it takes for a student to learn to read the notes on the piano sheet music will vary with each individual. The teacher will know that the student is ready to progress to more difficult pieces of sheet music when they are able to sit at the keyboard and play the rhythmic tunes without having to have a piece of piano sheet music in front of them. Some students never reach this point for one reason or the other, but the experience they had in learning the basics will stay with them the rest of their lives. Learning to read piano sheet music will develop patience, and open the door to the arts and entertainment world. The skills that are achieved while learning to play the piano might help students develop better study habits for a new school year, or learn to recognize the fact that setting goals can help people achieve great things. Some young people get overwhelmed by the stressors associated with growing up, but they learn that by taking each task one step at a time, they will be able to achieve great things in a very short period of time. These young people started their life in the music world with one piece of piano sheet music that they did not understand at all. By the time the end of the year came around, these students were confident enough in their piano playing abilities to be able to play several pieces of piano sheet music before a concert audience.
